Patrice Walker, of Sun Mountain Weaving in Chapel Hill, North Carolina,
will be weaving the Mississippi Tartan at CelticFest 2007. The Mississippi Legislature adopted the tartan in honor of its many Scots and Scotch-Irish citizens. In its resolution designating the tartan, the Legislature quoted the following from the Schottish Declaration of Indepence, signed on April 6, 1320: "For we fight not for glory, nor riches, nor honors, but for freedom alone, which no man gives up except with his life.

A "Céilí" (pronounced KAY-lee) is a party featuring Celtic music and dancing, and "Céilí Mór" (KAY-lee More) means a massive céilí! The CelticFest Céilí Mór is music and audience-participation Irish dancing (for the people, by the people). No experience or innate dancing ability required. The music is live, featuring CelticFest's headliners, regional bands, and guest musicians. Experienced
and certified dance instructors will be calling the céilí, so be sure to stick around and get busy dancing! Or
watching, if you prefer....
, with any of the musicians left standing...
Sunday, Sept 9
Kirking is a term that has grown in usage throughout the Scottish community across the world. The term 'Kirking
of the Tartans' literally means 'taking the family to church,' as the tartan is the symbol of family in Scottish
culture. This will be a non-denominal service on the festival grounds, in the white chapel in the village.
