Jane Millette
“Genealogy: Tracing Roots”
Jane Millette has been a part of CelticFest Mississippi almost from the beginning, but this year she brings a new subject to the festival. She began researching her genealogy many years ago, tracing her lines to England, Scotland, Ireland, France, Germany, Netherlands, and even one family member who lived in Rome in 970 A.D. Jane will give tips on uncovering lines that seem to be dead ends including use of computer programs and verifying information.

“Celtic Tatting (Handcrafted Lace)”
Jane returns this year with her workshop on Celtic tatting aimed at the needlework novice.  Participants will learn how to use a shuttle and thread to create a shamrock lapel pin. Tatting is a form of knotwork found in many ancient cultures but particularly suited to the bends and curves of Celtic design. This is a hands-on project.

Meet our instructor, Jane Millette, in the country store on Saturday at 2:00 P.M. for an hour of creativity. This workshop will introduce participants to the art of creating lace from thread, in the time-honored tradition.  Tatting is particularly tied to Celtic art because of its use of rings, loops, swirls, and interlocking elements.  Participants will learn the basic tatting construction techniques during this hour.  The first 15 participants will have an opportunity for a hands-on experience; others are welcome to look.
