Fenian's Pub

A Wine Tasting Benefit for CelticFest MS

It's a Wrap!!! Our thanks go to Fenian's and Wine & Spirits in the Quarter for holding this spectacular event!

The 4th Annual Fíon Pour was a great success, achieving its record attendance. "It just gets bigger every year, and there were lots of new faces this time," said organizer Perry Launius. Organizers hope the benefit will continue to grow.

"We're seeing a lot of folks that I frankly don't know, and who have found out about us one way or the other and are coming out with us to sample some wines," said Don Penzien, director of CelticFest Mississippi. "We hope they'll be with us to sample CelticFest as well."'

In case you'd like to attend the next Pour

Fion PourThe Annual Fíon Pour, the wine tasting for the common wallet, takes place in the late summer, weeks before CelticFest Mississippi. The folks at Wine and Spirits in the Quarter (Lakeland Drive) are partnering with Fenian's Irish Pub once again to bring a wine tasting for regular folks, completely informal, all as a benefit for CelticFest Mississippi.

Fenians is normally closed on Sundays, but they often open their doors for Celtic Heritage Society concerts, workshops, and benefits. It is always a smoke-free environment at these events!

Fíon (pronounced FEE-un) is the Irish Gaelic term for wine, and the root word of the name, "Fiona." Let wine experts and brand representatives guide you as you experience wines from around the world in every style imaginable and learn what truly fine wines can be had for a reasonable price.

Those who are familiar with the Fíon Pour, now in its fourth year this August, will recognize the relaxed format. This is not a formal sit-down sampling, but a casual, arrive-when-you-like wine tasting. Wine will be available at several different "stations" and staffed by a wine expert, and participants can meander from station to station, sampling and learning about the wines. Hors d' oeuvres will also be available to cleanse the palette.

Fion PourThe Pour is known for its fine selections of wines, all set off by exquisite catered confections. Whether you are a seasoned wine connoisseur or a new wine drinker, there's something for you at the Fíon Pour.

Tickets are $20 for non-members, $18 advance online purchase, and $15 for Celtic Heritage Society members. Fenian's Irish Pub is located on the corner of Jefferson and Fortification Streets in Jackson, MS. Online tickets can be purchased by visiting the CelticFest website, www.CelticFestMS.org.

The Fíon Pour is a benefit event, with all funds to support the upcoming 17th Annual CelticFest Mississippi, which runs Sept. 5, 6, and 7 at the Mississippi Agricultural and Forestry Museum. For more information about the Fíon Pour or Celticfest, visit the CelticFest website.

Melanie B. Williams

If you have ever attended one of the wine tasting benefits for CelticFest Mississippi, then you have had some of the wonderful food that Melanie Williams is known for (see the photo above...). Melanie was severely injured in a home fire on April 27th, 2008, and is recuperating in her daughter's care in Orlando, FL after specialized treatment and surgeries in Augusta, GA.

Melanie has also been responsible for all the food prepared for CelticFest's performers and staff in the festival's insider Hospitality Suite for the last three years, the food vended at Fenian's recent St Patrick's Day events and Bright Lights Belhaven Nights. Melanie served as an ad hoc general manager at Fenian's until the current manager, Damon Hogben was found. She's a strong lady with a big heart, and our thoughts are with her during her recovery.

Melanie's daughter has set up a website for her at CaringBridge.org, which enables friends and family to read about her story, get updates, and leave words of encouragement and support in her guestbook. For anyone who might like to make a donation towards her substantial medical expenses, the site facilitates the process.
